Application of frequency regulator for motors for fan drive

In case of applying a frequency regulator the following points need to be taken into account:
  1. Assure that the frequency regulator cares for a soft start
  2. The frequency regulator has to be provided with a system to prevent critical numbers of revolutions that could lead to resonances in the system. The system consists of the fan, the motor, the drive, construction work, ducting etc. To prevent these destructive frequencies to occur, it is necessary to check at which frequencies resonance appears and to exclude these on the frequency regulator.

Not following this simple procedure when starting up the fan, can cause serious problems.
  3. Independently controllable acceleration and deceleration times are necessary. The value needs to be determined by an interval period of 60sec. Between tow cycles in case of acceleration/deceleration. Acceleration/Deceleration need to happen smoothly, otherwise fatigue can occur in the blower and/ or extra wear to the bearings can take place.
  4. A condition, known as ramping has to be prevented by checking the correct power-frequency relation.
  5. When starting the fan a technician of the frequency regulator needs to be present. This technician needs to check weather the frequency regulator is installed correctly and if everything is functioning correctly.
  6. To prevent a power peek caused by impedance, the cable length between the motor and the frequency regulator can not exceed 50 meter.

Once more we stress the importance of precisely following the instructions of the supplier of the frequency regulator.
